Enhancing Anatomy and Physiology Learning at Excel High School with Body Interact

Bridging Classroom Learning and Clinical Thinking

At Excel High School, Health Science instructor Cindy Greene is transforming how students understand and apply anatomy and physiology concepts. By integrating Body Interact, a virtual patient simulation platform, into her teaching, Cindy bridges the gap between classroom theory and hands-on clinical practice while offering students a safe, interactive way to explore real-life like scenarios.

Cindy discovered Body Interact as a dynamic complement to traditional instruction and community clinical experiences. Recognizing that high school students often have limited opportunities to perform actual patient interventions, she saw in Body Interact a way to expand their clinical thinking and decision-making skills.

“Body Interact allows students to take theory and put it into action,” Greene explains. “It lets them see the impact of their decisions and treatments immediately.”

Turning Anatomy into Action with Body Interact Studio

Before assigning a scenario, the instructor ensures that students have completed their System learning objectives covering the system’s layers, structures, functions, and disorders.

She then uses Body Interact Studio’s Quick Solution Guide to identify knowledge gaps, review medical abbreviations, and highlight clinical reasoning steps to emphasize during the scenario.

To model critical thinking, Greene often completes the simulation herself before introducing it to students. “Doing the scenario first helps me pinpoint areas where students might struggle” she says. Depending on class level, she might complete the first case as a group discussion or assign it to advanced students who later mentor their peers.

Realistic Learning that Builds Confidence

Students at Excel High School have embraced Body Interact as both a learning and exploratory tool. They appreciate how it mirrors real healthcare interactions, enhancing their communication and problem- solving abilities.

“Since I haven’t decided my exact future in healthcare, Body Interact allows me to explore different specialties,” says senior Kensley Rowell.

“It helps me visualize patient consultations and develop my communication skills,” adds Emilee Gulsby.

Lauren Kelley, a senior and NREMT, shares: “Body Interact has helped me gain experience outside of my clinicals and prepared me for possible real-life scenarios while I am unable to Work”

——

Fellow senior Paisley Brooks concludes, “I want to go into nursing so this gives me some insight and knowledge into my future career virtually.”

Data-Driven Feedback and Reflective Learning

Through Body Interact, Greene’s students not only reinforce anatomical knowledge but also practice clinical reasoning, teamwork, and decision-making. The platform’s built-in metrics and instant feedback help both students and teachers track progress and reflect on performance.

By combining immersive simulation with thoughtful guidance, Cindy Greene and Excel High School are preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals with confidence, competence, and compassion.
